Things went wrong when a violin was first put into the hands of Ken Butler when he was a kid. Some years later he went studying art in France and he later graduated as a visual artist in Portland. His interest in music culminated in a totally bizarre passion for instrument building. Butler makes string creatures that are attractive both visually and sound wise. John Zorn discovered the man over ten years ago and released "Voices of Anxious Objects". On the festival stage he will present some of these timeless monsters to the audience.

Met Ken Butler liep het verkeerd toen ze hem als kind een viool in de handen duwden. Enkele jaren later ging hij beeldende kunsten gaan studeren in Frankrijk en later haalde hij nog een diploma in de schilderkunst in Portland. Zijn interesse voor muziek monde uit in een volledig losgeslagen instrumentenbouwobsessie. Ken Butler maakt snaarachtigen die zowel auditief als visueel aantrekkelijk zijn. John Zorn ontdekte deze bijzondere man al meer dan tien jaar geleden en bracht zijn "Voices of Anxious Objects" uit. Op het festival komt hij enkele van zijn tijdloze schepsels aan het publiek presenteren.

Les choses ont commencé à mal tourner pour Ken Butler quand on lui mit un violon entre les mains alors qu'il était encore un enfant. Quelques années plus tard, il partit étudier les arts figuratifs en France. Il obtiendra aussi un diplômd'art visuel à Portland. Son intérêt pour la musique débouchera sur une obsession détraqué pour les instruments. Ken Butler fabrique une sorte d'instruments à cordes séduisant tant par le visuel que l'auditif. John Zorn découvrit cet homme unique il y a plus de dix ans et sorti son « Voices of Anxious Objects ». Il viendra présenter pour le festival quelques unes de ses créations atemporelles.
