A Tribute to Robert Ashley — films
Dr. Chicago (George Manupelli)
Roulette TV interview with Robert Ashley
Ashley was responsible for the sound of the Dr. Chicago trilogy directed by George Manupelli, who would later found the premier American festival for experimental cinema in Ann Arbour. The first part of this trilogy will be shown in Extra City. Dr. Chicago has several seminal figures of the late sixties avant-garde scene in its cast. The eponymous protaganist, a stuttering quack, is played by composer Alvin Lucier, who co-founded the Sonic Arts Union with Ashley, and legendary choreographer and dancer Steve Paxton wanders through several scenes.
